Sean Kelly MEP Statement: Waterford Globalisation Fund - Commission Gives Green Light to Transfer of Funds

Waterford Globalisation Fund - Commission Gives Green Light to
Transfer of Funds - Simple Message - Help Workers to Help Themselves
I was delighted this month to welcome the European Commission's approval of the application for Waterford European Globalisation Adjustment Fund. I called for a swift passage of the file through Parliament and urged authorities to continue efforts to help former workers to retrain and up-skill. This is a shot in the arm to the former workers of Waterford Crystal.
Senator Paudie Coffey and I arranged for the Commission to come to Waterford to meet face to face with workers. The impetus given by these meetings has ensured a successful application for funding has been concluded.
I convened a further meeting with senior Commission officials to make the case for employees of suppliers to Waterford Crystal. These monies will definitely arrive - so there is no longer any reason, for bodies tasked with deploying the funds, such as the Enterprise Boards, WIT and FAS, not to start deploying courses to retrain and up-skill workers.
I would also like to encourage people, to approach your local Enterprise
Boards to get help to start up businesses. Waterford needs energy and courage to fight its way out of the jobs crisis. The EGF money can offer a little help to workers to help themselves to fight for a prosperous future for the South East.

Video: Nikki Haley for Governor of South Carolina TV AD

Nikki Haley, one of the strongest fiscal conservatives in state government, was first elected to represent the 87th District in Lexington County in 2004, when, as a virtual unknown she beat the longest serving state legislator in a Republican primary. In 2008 Representative Haley was sent back to the statehouse with 83 percent of the vote – the highest percentage earned by any lawmaker facing a contested South Carolina election that year.

Her time in Columbia has been marked by conservative leadership and an unwavering commitment to the taxpayers’ bottom line. She has fought wasteful spending at every turn, pushed for smaller, more efficient government, and led the fight for the accountability and transparency that before her arrival was sorely lacking in the Legislature.

For her efforts to cut taxes and slow the growth of government spending, Nikki was named “Friend of the Taxpayer” (2009) by the S.C. Association of Taxpayers and a “Taxpayer Hero” (2005) by Gov. Mark Sanford.
She has lifetime “A” ratings from the South Carolina Club for Growth, the Palmetto Family Council, and the National Rifle Association. Nikki has also received the Palmetto Leadership Award from the S.C. Policy Council for her expertise on policy matters and the Strom Thurmond Excellence in Public Service and Government Award from the S.C. Federation of Republican Women for the outstanding constituent service she provides to her district.

Born in Bamberg, S.C., the daughter of Indian immigrants, Nikki’s first job was keeping the books for her family’s clothing store – at the age of 13. She went on to graduate from Clemson University with a B.S. degree in accounting and following her graduation worked as Accounting Supervisor for the Charlotte, N.C. based corporation FCR, Inc. and five of its subsidiaries. Nikki then went back to the family business where she helped oversee its growth into a multi-million dollar operation. Since 2008 she has served as the Assistant Executive Director of the Lexington Medical Foundation.

Nikki and her husband Michael, a full time federal technician with the South Carolina National Guard and an officer in the Army National Guard, attend Mt. Horeb United Methodist Church in Lexington. She was previously a board member of both the Orangeburg and Lexington County Chambers of Commerce and a member of the National Association of Women Business Owners. Currently, Nikki sits on the board for Mt. Horeb United Methodist Church, Medmission, and is a proud member of the West Metro Republican Women and the Lexington County Republican Party.

Nikki and Michael live in Lexington with their two children, Rena, 11, and Nalin, 8.

Conversion Story-Father Donald Calloway Saved by Medjugorje and the Virgin Mary

Heroine, cocaine, opium, marijuana, excessive alcohol, not to mention hallucinogenic drugs like mushrooms (psilocybin) and LSD – he consumed most of these before the age of 18, many before he turned 14, the addictions growing stronger as the existential emptiness deepened. What sounds like an introduction to a Hunter S. Thompson novel actually constitutes the autobiography of a Catholic priest. Fr. Donald Calloway of the Marians of the Immaculate Conception retells his dramatic and heart-wrenching life story in No Turning Back: A Witness to Mercy....

Ireland:Eamon Ryan's TV proposals will destroy Irish Rugby-Enough is Enough

The IRFU has launched a furious onslaught on proposals which would require Six Nations and Heineken Cup matches to be shown on free-to-air television.

Green Party Minister for Communications, Energy and Natural Resources, Eamon Ryan, is seeking to add these to the list of sporting events to be made available to all viewers free of charge. The plans would cost the IRFU €12million or 18% of their total income.

The implications of the Ministers proposals are horrendous. The IRFU has skilfully invested much of this income in developing a sound provincial structure which is the envy of many of our competitors. Most of Irelands top players have remained at home thanks to the revenues generated by deals with subscription channels such as Sky and Setanta. These revenues help fund their salaries. Munster (2), Leinster and Ulster have all won the Heineken Cup. This is an amazing record considering the small rugby playing population in Ireland. It is a tribute to the stewardship of the IRFU.

If the Minister gets his way the IRFU will no longer have the income to fund the salaries of top players such as O'Gara, O'Driscoll. The provinces will be bled dry as top French and English clubs plunder their resources. No wonder English and French clubs are smacking their lips at the prospects of an Irish Minister destroying Irish rugby. Make no mistake about it. Minister Ryan has lost the run of himself. The Minister is a theoretician. Unfortunately his proposals are ill-conceived. Under Ryan's proposals second rate Munster and Leinster teams shorn of their talented players will play at an empty Thomond Park and an empty RDS on free to view terrestial TV. Also the Minister would create a massive split between Rugby Union in Munster, Leinster and Connacht on the one hand and Ulster on the other. Ulster after all is not under his jurisdiction.

Opposition to Mr Ryans proposals is developing. Munster and Leinster fans will not stand idly by and watch their provincial sides dismantled by Minister Ryan. A general election is due by 2012 if not earlier. The government would be advised to back off while it has time. Thankfully FG through its spokesman Simon Coveney has come out strongly against this idiocy. Where are the FF backbenchers?

Wake up Minister and stop the waffling. The €12 million loss which would ensue from your proposals cannot be made up by other means.
The current mix of free-to-air and pay-per-view platforms has served Irish rugby well. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Minister Ryan do you want to go down in history as the man who destroyed Irish rugby?

Video:Medjugorje Healing Miracles Book: "Full of Grace" discussed by author Christine Watkins

Christine Watkins grew up without the benefit of a religious education, as her parents were quite hostile to religion. Indeed Christine was bitterly opposed to religion. She engaged in a fruitless search for the truth. She developed cervical cancer. She now reached a turning point in her life.

Her friend Joseph helped her to pray, and taught her about God. Jesus cured her of cancer. She earned Master of Theological Studies and Master of Social Welfare degrees and has become a staunch Catholic. Her trip to Medjugorje brought her close to Mary the Mother of God.

In Full of Grace: Miraculous Stories of Healing and Conversion through Mary's Intercession,Christine Watkins describes how her own life and the lives of five others were transformed by God and by the miracle of Mary's apparitions at Medjugorje.

Powerful Abortion Video: No Mr Obama Killing Our Children Is Killing Our Children

The Baby in My Womb Leaped for Joy By John Piper

A New President, Trapped and Blinded

As everyone knows, our new President, over whom we have rejoiced, does not share this reverence for the beginning of human life. He is trapped and blinded by a culture of deceit. On the 36th anniversary of Roe v. Wade, he said, “We are reminded that this decision not only protects women’s health and reproductive freedom, but stands for a broader principle: that government should not intrude on our most private family matters.”

To which I say . . .

No, Mr. President, you are not protecting women’s health; you are authorizing the destruction of half a million tiny women every year.
No, Mr. President, you are not protecting reproductive freedom; you are authorizing the destruction of freedom for a million helpless people every year.
No, Mr. President, killing our children does not cease to be killing our children no matter how many times you call it a private family matter. Call it what you will, they are dead, and we have killed them. And you, Mr. President, would keep the killing legal.
Some of us wept with joy over the inauguration of the first African-American President. We will pray for you. And may God grant that there arises in your heart an amazed and happy reverence for the beginning of every human life.(By John Piper. © Desiring God. Website: desiringGod.org )
