Newfoundland is the most Irish place outside of Ireland.“An Bóithrín Glas: Talamh an Éisc” documentary produced for RTE in 1999 explains how the Irish settled in Newfoundland, influenced the local customs and supported the Waterford economy. Most came from within a 30km radius of Waterford city. They came mainly from Waterford, South Tipperary, Kilkenny and Wexford. Passage East in Waterford Harbour was the final stop before they reached St. Johns in Newfoundland.
